Provides universal homevisiting for newborns and their mothers regardless of culture or economic status for Alameda County.  Promote physical and mental health.

First 5 Alameda County approved a strategic plan for a comprehensive system of early intervention services for children 0-5 years of age and their families. A key component of the strategic plan is to focus on supporting the healthy birth and postpartum period of infants and their parents. In October 2000, the Universal Home Visiting Program began providing services to newborns and mothers, regardless of medical or socio-economic status. The intent of this program was to promote healthy newborns and mothers, promote early social and emotional well-being and provide support to parents of newborns in need of additional resources. Because the health and wellbeing of the child is intrinsically tied to the well being of the mother, the goal is that all pregnant women in Alameda County will be screened using the perinatal SART model for alcohol, tobacco and substance abuse, maternal depression and domestic violence.
