Women who suffered from untreated major depression throughout pregnancy had increased rates of preterm birth comparable to those who took selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants. Both groups had higher rates of preterm birth than women without depression or SSRI treatment during pregnancy.
